Allergies and Contact Lenses

Without a doubt, the
condition I have been hearing the most complaints about the past few weeks
is……..

Almost all contact lens
wearers with allergies experience some discomfort at some time. Allergens in
the air become adhered to contact lenses; the allergens cause itchy, teary
swollen eyes.
Unfortunately there is
no magic bullet to make the symptoms go away, but there are a few things you
can do to relieve the symptoms, but you may not want to hear them.

#1 WEAR YOU GLASSES WHEN POSSIBLE (MAKE IT POSSIBLE).
#2 WEAR YOUR GLASSES
WHEN POSSIBLE (DID I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR????)

  Pollen
adheres to the surface of contact lenses; switching to glasses lets you avoid
an allergy attack.
(Aren’t you glad you
purchased a pair at half off at our last frame event??  By the way the next
event is Oct.9th, wearing your glasses is a more appealing idea if
you have a pair you are happy with).
#3 KEEP YOUR CONTACTS
CLEAN; using the Alcon system will keep them clean without irritating your
eyes.
#4 Use cool compresses,
a cool damp compress will help relieve discomfort. DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES, it
will worsen the inflammation and spread the allergens.

#5 Take over the
counter oral Benadryl, take as directed.
#6 KEEP YOUR EYES MOIST
WITH ARTIFICIAL TEARS. They will keep you more comfortable and wash allergens
out of your eyes.

#7 If bad enough, see your eye care professional for prescription
medications, there are a few that really help.
#8 Pray for snow!!!
