Usually when someone goes on a diet it’s to LOSE something…….weight, but here’s a diet to SAVE something…….your sight!

The leading cause of blindness among older people is Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). But there is good news on the horizon; it is believed that certain nutrients seam to play a role in slowing down its progression or even preventing it.
The well respected Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) done by the National Eye Institute found that: 
 500mg of vitamin C,
 400 IU of vitamin E,
  15 mg of beta carotene,
  80 mg of zinc,
 and 2mg of copper,
 It can slow the progression of AMD.
There is a second AREDS study being conducted testing omega-3 fats, lutein and zeaxanthin, but it is too early for the results.
BTW, smoking doesn’t cause AMD, but it increases the progression of it, another good reason to avoid/ stop the habit.
As of now, there is no evidence that the AREDS formula prevents AMD, but if you are at high risk (a parent has/had AMD), you should discuss taking supplements with your eye care provider.
